Black Knight 2000 flipper diode ?

Parts have arrived to start a complete rebuild of the flippers MEC's and wires !!
Just about to start and spotted this diode on the Eos switch !
Basically is it supposed to be there ? And if not why is it there ?

Is it doing the job of a missing diode on the flipper coil?

All diodes on all coils here's a better picif I am reading it right that's the switch which activate the upper coil ,but the gap is too small should be 1/8 " gap , just thinking could it be causing a fanton upper flip and that's why a diode was fitted . looks like I will have to unsolder the diodes to check if one has failed !
