BK2K general illumination problem

Hi,

Looking for some help and advice about my black knight 2000.

The general illumination isn’t lighting up on the play field, I’ve checked to see the cables aren’t loose, checked the fuses and replaced the bulbs but still not lighting up. And also only one bulb lights up on the “ransom” on the display board. Has anyone any advice?

I have some pictures attached to see if it’s something obvious I’m missing.

Bit rusty but is it J5 on the interconnect board on Sys11 games which is responsible for the g.i?
Check that isn’t toasty
Also, does BK2K have the relay boards under the playfield. A small pcb with a relay on it and one connector? I know with my Taxi it was the route of all my g.i problems in the end.

If it’s not the relay which is a good starting place, I would then push those wires into the connector properly. They should be going through the terminals not humped up over them. Doubt they are making good contact.

Thank you for the swift advice on this, I’ll go through and check both of these and come back to you with the out come.

??

Hello,

Re. the single lamp 'R' of R-A-N-S-O-M, those letters are built up during play by shooting up the drawbridge ramp into the ball locking area, and then only when it's lit (though there is also an award from the 'Lightning Wheel'). Do the other lamps work in the Lamp Test?

The number of Ransom lamps initially lit can be altered by one of the 'Ad' adjustment entries, controlling the difficulty/frequency of the Ransom feature

I sorted that out there was a faulty wire, same with the lower Playfield. Just trying to work out the upper play field problem now,

You were right about the faulty wire, it just needed poking in properly.

All the lower Playfield is lit but the upper isn’t lighting still so need to trace that wire. It’s all the same coloured wire combo but just can’t see where it’s faulting and was a worrying burning smell so need to see where that’s coming from.

Pretty sure the relays are ok, they look clean and no wear or cracking.

So conclusion, all lower Playfield fixed, all upper Playfield G.I’s not working.
However I think I may have found the issue, a broken connector, is this an easy fix or do I need to get someone in to help? Not tackled anything like this yet.

Yes. Relatively easy to replace the strip of header pins. Or if you’re not confident you could just add an inline connector and join the floating wire to the one directly beneath it bypassing the PCB.

Just one more question, do you know what size those connectors are. I ordered some but they are smaller than the ones on the interconnect board.
