Great weekend! Respect and thank you to everyone involved in organising and supporting. Sorry my old GOLD BALL was being temperamental all weekend. Really hope it goes ahead again.
Only slight downer was when I dropped my hired Transit van back at the depot last night... I noticed someone had...
I've decided to sell my Bally VECTOR. It's been with a friend for over 2 years for him to use a reference for his project VECTOR rebuild, but to also give me some space in my 3-pin man-cave that I tried to put 4 machines into! I have to admit I don't really have the time or space to have so many...
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this from the beginning, @Andy B  Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing the first DESW from The Dark Side :)
@newdos I looked back at the first few posts and you can see the vertical positioning of the decals was a bit off between the two sides...
Wow, that is the grottiest TAF I've ever seen! Any idea of the history behind the machine that lead to it being in that condition? Must have been well-played hence the ingrained dirt, but possibly then stored somewhere cold and dank for a long time... good luck with the resto!
Loving this thread @DanLewell :D Much rather see you go all the way and out on this rather another TAF! Atari pins are so rare, this one deserves some special TLC. That playfield is absolutely lush and in great condition. What beautiful artwork! Would love to have this pin in my collection...
Definitely +1 on the 100W soldering iron for lamp holders. I've got a fairly beefy 25W iron but it takes f.o.r.e.v.e.r to get the holder hot enough. Fine for doing one. But a 100W iron is the only way to go when you've got dozens of them to do. Judging by the splatters of flux all over the...
Hi Jim,
A few questions for the curious among us ;)
What's the difference between a "non shielded old type" plug and a "new one"?
Are you sticking with the single fluorescent tube in the backbox? I'm thinking of going for a full loop of warm white LEDs on a strip as the fluorescent is...
Nedreud has been dusted off! I'm back from the dead! And, with 99% certainty, will be manning the wheel of a Transit van full of pins on it's way to Daventry!
I may even have resurrected MR & MRS PAC-MAN to a playable state, but very much "optional extra" at this stage.
Carefully take apart the old leaf switch and lay out the parts in the order they were assembled. I think you may find the side tabs are electrically isolated from the long contact leaves and are just used as a mounting point for the components and cables. I could be totally wrong but I've had...
Most exciting looking new pinball in several years! For those of us with a thing for single level rampless toyless modeless solid-state games from the 80s this looks great. Would love to have a bash but ownership not an option.
So @Blake7, what have you got planned in terms of restoration for the hardware in this truly classic Bally game? Are you going to restore the cabinet and backbox, or stick with faded original glory? Playfield, mechs, plastics, etc.? Don't know if you've looked at my shoplogs (linked in my footer...
As @astyy said the coil numbers tell you the gauge (wire thickness) and number of turns, so NO-26-1000 is 1,000 turns of 26 gauge. I don't see a 26-1000 listed in the manual?
The 2-letter prefix is a code that indicates the positions of the coil lugs. Often you can use coils with different...
You most definitely WILL know how to fix everything @Blake7 because even after you've got it all working it'll keep going wrong and require constant maintenance! Welcome to world of classic pinball machines. Be brave though... you've bagged yourself one of THE classic games of all time at...
For CENTAUR II the underplayfield fuse is a 1 Amp 3AG Slow-Blow. 3AG is a US size equating to 1 1/4" length (32mm) and 1/4" diameter (6.35mm). You can get these from Maplin, code GL91Y, £3.49 for pack of ten: https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/1a-time-delay-glass-31mm-fuse-10-pack-gl91y
If this fuse...
